Happy Thanksgiving from EG Workforce Solutions! To celebrate this season of gratefulness, we’re sharing three things you maybe didn’t realize your job made you thankful for. If these things don’t ring true to you, it might be a litmus test it’s time to find something new.

Friendships with Coworkers

Being around your coworkers usually leads to natural bonds forming between you and them since you’re around each other on a daily basis. Sometimes, your most important friendships can come from building relationships with your coworkers.

Besides friendships and social benefits, building relationships with your coworkers leads to more personal success for your own role. You can learn from others as well as teach them what you know. Building strong relationships along company lines is also a great way to become more aligned with the company values.

New Opportunities to Learn and Grow

Your job allows you to learn and grow, both your hard and soft skills. For example, the hard skills you’ll learn might include – how to use specific software systems, manage client accounts, or clean on a professional level, or use tools related to your position.

You’ll also learn soft skills. You’ll gain soft skills including how to interact socially with your coworkers, listen, act in meetings, send professional emails, logical thinking, resourcefulness, decision-making, problem-solving conflict resolution, motivation, work-life balance, collaboration, networking, and staying on task.

The Work You’re Doing

Even if it doesn’t always feel like it, the work you do matters and is valued by others. The work you do in your role helps your coworkers perform their jobs better and helps the company overall. Don’t get hung up thinking what you do doesn’t matter, because it does.

Also, think about how the work you’re doing challenges and excites you. Do you ever get passionate about finding a new or better way to complete your work or processes? Get to take on a new project or responsibilities? These things are all great ways to be thankful for that you might not have considered before.

In this season of gratitude and thankfulness, take some time to think about how your job has given you opportunities to make new friendships, learn and grow, and bring value to your coworkers and company.

Have you ever read through a job description, got to the qualifications section, saw the required experience, and didn’t apply? If you answered yes, you’re not alone. You may think just because you don’t have enough relevant experience, the hiring manager won’t give your application the time of day. While there are of course limitations to this, there are ways to land a job that you may not have much experience for. Here are three things you should do to get hired when you don’t have much job experience.

Customize Your Resume for Every Job Application

Even if you lack relevant job experience, you can build your resume up by thinking about different courses you’ve taken (whether in school or via online platforms), projects you’ve completed, internships, volunteering, etc. Also, think about how all of this relates to the job you’re applying for. Read the job description to know what seems to be the most important factors of the role. How has what you’ve done in the past related to this? How can you leverage what you have accomplished, outside a professional environment, to show you’re potentially a good fit for the role?

Customizing your resume for each job application will take longer than sending it out in mass, but the effort will pay off when you start getting contacted back by hiring managers. If you apply to jobs without much experience without customizing your resume each time, chances are low you’ll get much traction. You will be rewarded by putting in the hard work now!

Educate Yourself About Your Field

Become an “expert” by educating yourself about your desired job field. Do everything you can to learn about the ins and outs of your industry. What are the top trends? New technologies or processes? Start building your “field knowledge” by taking classes, attending workshops or seminars, doing online courses, getting certificates and diplomas, and if you have to, earn a degree.

Not only will this help you gain knowledge for the job, but also show your dedication and commitment. Employers and hiring managers will take notice of this; just make sure you highlight these knowledge steps in your resume as you apply for jobs!

Work with a Staffing Agency

If you want an additional leg-up in finding a job but lack much experience, consider working with a staffing agency. Working with a recruiter will help you access more job opportunities, save you time in your job search, give you resume and career advice, gain a job search advocate, and you’ll stay in their database until the right position comes along.

Don’t let a lack of experience keep you from applying for jobs you believe could be a good fit. Just because you might not meet the experience qualifications listed in the job description doesn’t mean you should pass up at least applying for the job. Tailor your resume for each application by considering what “non-professional” experience you have from classes, volunteering, or projects you’ve completed. You should also educate yourself as much as possible about your desired field to gain knowledge about the job you want. Finally, consider working with a staffing agency to help you land a new job.

Most organizations agree that having a diverse workforce will benefit the business, lead to greater innovation and new ideas. However, too often, companies fail to build a hiring strategy that brings in diverse talent. Here are three ways your organization can improve diversity in your hiring strategy.

Start by Auditing Your Job Postings

One of the best ways to start recruiting a diverse pool of candidates is to do an audit of your past job postings. Is the language or phrasing inclusive to anyone who might apply regardless of their race, ethnicity, or gender?

Upon review, you might realize some of the language or phrasing you use are more geared toward a specific demographic, even if it was an unconscious decision. If you find this to be the case, begin re-writing your job descriptions to use more inclusive language to appeal to candidates from different backgrounds.

Work on Your Employer Brand

Your employer brand is a powerful asset when it comes to hiring. Maybe, it could be the best way to boost diversity in your hiring process. Your organization should build an employer brand that values people and opinions from all demographics and backgrounds. Your employer brand should speak to the benefits and importance of diversity within your team, get buy-in from your current team, and solidify those values into your company culture.

As you work to build your employer brand, candidates will start to notice that you’re an employer known for valuing diversity. Candidates will seek out companies who genuinely value building a brand and culture focused on diversity and inclusion.

Promote Your Jobs Where There are More Diverse Candidates

One way to ensure that your candidate pool has diverse candidates is to source talent from various places where you’re promoting your jobs. Stop relying on the same sources over and over again when it’s time to hire. When your organization only focuses on these same sources that you know best, you’ll often see the same demographic, which can result in a pipeline of similar candidates and a lack of diversity.

Try seeking out opportunities to source diverse candidates where they typically congregate. For example, many online and offline groups are dedicated to certain demographics, genders, or ethnicities in specific industries. It stands to reason then that it’s likely this includes a group for the industry your organization serves! This potentially is a new source to meet and connect with top talent directly, instead of waiting for them to find you through platforms like job boards or social media. The more you take the initiative to find these alternate sources of candidates, the more likely it is that your talent pools will increase in diversity.

When it comes to hiring for diversity, your organization should be thinking about bringing on candidates from different backgrounds, cultures, religions, genders, sexual orientations, ages, and ethnicities. Bringing in people who have different viewpoints and worldview perspectives will lead to an overall more successful business. You’ll have a workforce that can see things from multiple perspectives and problem-solve from different angles. In short, more diversity leads to better overall company performance. You can start achieving diversity in your hiring strategy by auditing your job postings for language that includes or excludes people from applying, expand your employer brand to include diversity as a priority, and find diverse candidates where they’re at by posting jobs outside of traditional methods.

Ready to level-up your job search? Start working with a recruiter! Working with a recruiter, like an EG recruiter, means you will spend less time scouring job boards and filling out applications as well as have an advocate through the job search process, access to more jobs, and more! When you work with a recruiter, you’ll get a leg up on the outside competition. Ready to learn more? Here are four reasons you should work with a recruiter.

Who Should Use a Recruiter?

Recruiters can serve a job seeker at any level in their career or skill level. Different recruitment firms focus on various industries or career levels their recruiters recruit for, so do your research before applying. For example, if you’re looking for an entry-level or mid-level position, you’ll want to find a recruitment agency that caters to those needs. Likewise, if you’re looking for a specific leadership position within a particular industry, you’ll want to find a recruitment firm that is partnered with that industry. So no matter your background, skill-level, or career path, everyone who wants to enhance their job search could use a recruiter on their side.

You’ll Save Time Job Searching

Applying for jobs online is time-consuming and often a monotonous task. Working with a recruiter can be a major time saver for your job search! With a recruitment agency, like EG, you would fill out one application that then goes into our system for our recruiters to use to match you with position options they believe would be a good fit for you.

To put it simply, recruiters are aware of what jobs are available, and they know you’re looking. The recruiter can devote large amounts of time to making sure those jobs are filled with candidates like you.

You’ll Have an Advocate in Your Job Search

Working with a recruiter also means you’ll gain an advocate in your job search. A recruiter can be your advocate in improving your resume, portfolio, and other application documents to help you stand out from other candidates, especially when it comes to competitive or direct-hire positions.

They can also coach you on interviewing best practices, and, after an interview with the employer, the recruiter will give you feedback. Your recruiter is an advocate for your job search success!

You’ll Stay in a Database

If you apply for a job through a recruitment firm and don’t get an offer, the good news is that the recruiter will be able to keep your info and application documents in their database. This means if another position you’d be a great candidate for becomes available, your recruiter will already have your information ready to go. This means you can rest assured your resume or application isn’t “tossed” if the original position doesn’t work out.

Recruitment firms also use applicant tracking systems that make sorting candidates easy. The software pulls specific information from your resume and matches it to relevant jobs. When the right opening comes along, it’s likely your resume will surface. So again, when you work with a recruiter, you can feel confident your information won’t get lost in a pool of candidates.

You’ll Have Access to More Jobs

You might think you’re seeing all the available jobs when you search job boards or social media sites. This may not be a complete picture though! Recruiters work with companies directly to fill positions so they may be aware of more opportunities that are not posted.

Recruiters will give you access to jobs that are hard to find through a solo job search. Since recruitment firms work directly with companies, they can provide you with access to jobs that are not advertised or not posted on the internet. With more options to apply to, you have a better chance of receiving the job offer you want.

Whether you’re looking for a new job or wanting to make a change in your career, working with a recruiter is a great way to land a great position. Your recruiter wants to see you succeed; in fact, that’s our mission here at EG, Helping People Succeed. Working with a recruiter will save your time in your job search, provide you an advocate; you’ll stay in the firm’s database, and you’ll have access to more job opportunities.
